Frankincense and myrrh, two esteemed gifts obtained from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make wonderful partners in healing! Both have been incorporated throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, especially Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets deal with issues with many different health conditions, many that Executive Chiropractic of Iowa knows afflict our West Des Moines chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to understand better!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine esteems frankincense and myrrh for their wide-ranging positive health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects stopped growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are elements of an anti-tumor drug for various cancers with the latest research revealing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By monitoring pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that serve tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was reduced, and pathological structure was diminished with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh modulated urotheilial wound healing to help symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh comination is a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Executive Chiropractic of Iowa appreciates combinations of treatments to help our West Des Moines chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a serious problem of diabetes and cause of kidney disease, by regulating pathways having to do with the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is explained as having the ability to stimulate blood and dissipate blood stasis. The mix was tested and found to lessen neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to inhibition of TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Executive Chiropractic of Iowa knows all this detail may not be your “thing” of wanting to know, but we want to share the whole story if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
