West Des Moines CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Exercise the Quadratus Lumborum
The quadratus lumborum – a quadrilateral-shaped muscle - is a paired muscle on the left and right side of the abdominal wall. It’s a deep muscle and usually thought of as a back muscle as it stretches from the 12th rib to the upper 4 lumbar vertebrae. When contracted, the quadratus lumborum produces lateral flexion of the lumbar spine and/or elevation of the pelvis. (5) Several bridge-type exercises are being examined about the way in which they strengthen the quadratus lumborum’s 2 layers of muscle in order for it to best add to the motor control of the lumbar pain and avert back pain. (6) Executive Chiropractic of Iowa and you can talk about how your spine may benefit from such exercise at your next West Des Moines chiropractic visit to Executive Chiropractic of Iowa.
